Q: what if you stop allergy shots

They didn't let us know it was a 3 to 5 year process. We have 4 children on shots now and don't know if it's worth continuing (and it's expensive!). We have been on shots for about a year. Will the shots they've received continue to help if we stop? They seem to be doing better since starting the shots.
