Hi Rita,   It's certainly possible that your son was bitten by some kind of insect and is having an allergic reaction. It's also possible that it could be an allergy to a poisonous plant like poison ivy, sumac or oak. But it might be wise to have a doctor look at it to be sure, and to check for infection or other serious injury.   One thing is for sure... cortisone cream should never be used around the eye. I think you'll find it says that right on the packaging. That's because the skin around the eyes can be extremely sensitive; the cream could also be easily rubbed into the eye from there, which could be even more irritating.   Good luck!   Kathi
