Q: Will my 12 year old always be allergic to bee stings?

She must use an epi-pen after a bee, hornet, or wasp sting along with predizone for one week following the sting.

Hi Cindy,

Allergies are not always predictable. Sometimes, our sensitivities do lessen over time, but there is no guarantee that it will happen for your daughter, unfortunately. Some people have good results from immunotherapy, or allergy shots, which can help reduce sensitivity to allergens.

If you're interesteed in that approach, an allergist will need to be consulted, as they are the only type of doctor allowed to administer allergy shots. It can be a delicate process to expose the allergic person to tiny amounts of bee serum, increasing gradually over time. An allergist can help you decide if this is the right approach for your daughter.

To your health,

Kathi
