Dear Worried,

Great question! It's hard, sometimes, to tell the difference between colds and allergies, as they do share some symptoms, such as runny, sniffly noses and coughing. However, fever is a hallmark symptom of a cold or other infection. Allergies never cause fevers. Also, allergies produce a dry, hacking type of cough, while colds often cause a "wetter' cough that produces mucus.

Check with your doctor for a definite diagnosis, OK?

To your health,

Kathi

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
