Gaining experience with cancer and cardiac operations and following safety guidelines have helped hospitals lower the number of deaths among people having high-risk surgery over the last nine years.
"Overall, surgery in the United States is getting safer," said lead researcher Dr. Jonathan F. Finks in a HealthDay News article.
Much of this is due to many high-risk cancer operations being done in hospitals that do a lot of them and to overall better compliance with safety guideline, the researchers noted.
