Anaphylactic Shock

Allergy breakthrough may lower number of fatalities

Scottish researchers have identified a molecule that they say may worsen allergic reactions. The immune hormone IL-33 appears to regulate the body's anaphylactic shock response. Researchers say that if they can lower this molecule in humans it may help dramatically reduce the number of patients who die each year from anaphylaxis resulting from exposure to peanuts, shellfish, bee stings, eggs, and other common allergens.
