Bacteria commonly found in thermal springs and spas may help heal atopic eczema, a new study suggests. British researchers found that when patients used skin cream containing the harmless Vitreoscilla filiformis bacteria, their itching, infection, and other symptoms of the skin disorder were improved in less than two weeks. Researchers believe the bacteria may ease eczema by helping regulate the immune system.
