The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to swallow Benadryl itch-relief gel. The agency has received more than 100 reports of people ingesting the product, including seven reports of patients who had to be treated in the emergency room. Topical Benadryl contains diphenhydramine, a product that when ingested can cause hallucinations, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
