A fear of allergies sparked by nuts can lead to irrational hysteria, one expert writes in the British Medical Journal. Professor Nicolas Christakis of Harvard Medical School says that 150 people die annually from a peanut allergy, but he points out that 50 die from bee stings, and 100 from lightning strikes, and few other dangers spur as much hysteria as a simple nut allergy.
