Researchers say that kids who have tense, stressed parents and who also live in areas with high pollution may be more susceptible to asthma. The study of 2,497 school kids in California suggests that stress in parents--along with traditional risk factors such as air pollution--may affect a child's breathing. Previous studies have already shown that stress during pregnancy can increase a child's risk of having asthma, and researchers say the new study adds evidence to the idea that environmental anxiety may carry the same risks.
