Daycare may not protect against allergies, asthma

While there is some validity to the "hygiene hypothesis," experts say that exposing kids to infections from other children does not reduce their risk of allergies. A study by Dutch investigators on 4,000 children found that kids who attended daycare got four times as many colds and chest infections, and were twice as likely to wheeze in early childhood, with no payoff later in life.  Read full story >
