'Exciting' Advance Made in Treating Peanut Allergy

Researchers at Cambridge University Hospitals in the United Kingdom have developed a new therapy for people who have peanut allergies. The treatment uses immunotherapy to introduce increasing amounts of peanuts to patients in a controlled environment, the same principle used with allergy shots. In a recent study, researchers used this method with 23 children who were allergic to peanuts. After six weeks, 21 of 23 of the children were able to safely eat at least five peanuts per day without any reaction. The study participants said that they no longer had to carefully read food labels or fear the peanut allergy after undergoing the therapy.  Read full story >
