Too Many Children Prescribed Antibiotics for Asthma: Study

A new study suggest that almost one million asthmatic children are unnecessarily prescribed antibiotics every year. Researchers say many doctors may feel that they're "covering their bases" if they prescribe antibiotics, or they may be bowing to the wishes of parents who do not understand that asthma is not infectious. Experts say unnecessarily giving children antibiotics could put them at risk for drug side effects, as well as make them more resistant to antibiotics in the future.
