Gene May Explain Why Some Asthmatics Don't Respond to Steroids: Study

Up to 40 percent of people with asthma do not respond to inhaled steroids, and researchers say they may know why. In a study of 1,000 people, researchers found that those who inherited two copies of a genetic variant on the GLCCI1 gene were less likely to respond to inhaled steroids. Researchers say clinical trials need to be done to determine if a person's genetic response to drugs helps improve their treatment options.
