Interpreting the Flurry of Alzheimer's Disease News

By David Roeltgen, MD, Health Guide Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Some of what I have written here is an oversimplification.  However, over the next years, we will be faced with much information about new research in the field of Alzheimer's disease.  It is important for each of us to keep in mind our own perspective on this information as well as the perspective of the people presenting the information.  When we visit our own physician, or when I have a patient visit with me, the discussion should be tailored to the individual patient or the individual family.

However, information presented in the media is presented from a perspective that may not be the same as we have in the doctor's office.  As you read information in the media, and in these SharePosts, please keep in mind that each of us approaches these issues with certain perspectives that may or may not be understood by the person presenting the information or the person receiving the information.  Over the next weeks as I try to present some of the new research on the drugs described above and others, I will try to discuss than in the terms of the perspectives presented here, and hopefully this approach will make you, my readers, better consumers of health care.
