Reading about people within the Alzheimer Association hoping that independent studies will be done is also getting to be old hat.
With the money that Amgen has spent issuing press releases and sending out glitzy 'I'm sorry but’ letters and informational folders to caregivers and individuals requesting further study of the value of Enbrel as a tool in fighting Alzheimer's, I suspect that a small, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial in neutral territory could have been funded. What is the hold up? Are they naive enough to believe that the requests will stop?
Proof of the potential merit of Enbrel treatments is mounting daily. A clinical trial will eventually have to be done. Hopefully it will be done sooner rather than later...My loved one is being more compromised every day. Within the next 12 months I will attempt to seek out of network treatment. Hopefully my loved one will join the growing pool of ‘anecdotal evidence’.

Great info - thanks for posting for our members! Amazing that this is even considered for real. But... there is a school of thought out there that follows any research is good research as it keeps people moving in the right direction. My take - in this case it makes us take pause a bit. Ensuring that what caregivers and loved ones know about these kinds of studies is so important. Maybe there is a legit study in the works with this kind of medication. If there wasn't maybe there will be!
For more information on Alzheimer's research, check out the Web Reources page on our site. It lists links to several of the national organizations focused on this disease and will have additional informaiton on research and studies in the works.
All the best, sue
