My mom was diagnosed with alzheimers, started on Namenda about 1.5 - 2 months ago, and today her neurologist has added Aricept to be taken daily. Would LOVE to know about the cocktail and how I can get her involved with the program. Please contact me at my email, it would be greatly appreciated.

These two drugs are often used together to enhance the benefits of staving off symptoms of AD (in some people). You can talk to her pharmacist for some good insight into drugs. Medications are a pharmacists main focus, so I like to check things out with a pharmacist if I have concerns about interactions or reactions to drugs. It's smart of you to ask questions.

Take care,

Carol

My Dad was diagnosed about 5 years ago and has taken Aricept, he is doing okay, able to drive, has some occasional forgetfulness maybe more than when initially diagnosed.

When is the proper/right time to begin cocktail? Immediately or delay until necessary?

Thanks,

Karen

All medications have side effects and your dad seems to be doing well, but only his doctor can make the decision about when to start the combination. Some doctors begin the combination right away. I'd ask his doctor and if you want to make sure, you can always explain that you'd like a referral for a second opinion. It does sound like he's getting good care, so maybe you could just check with the doctor and ask for a timeline.

Take care,

Carol
