Who am I...

By Michael L. Harville Monday, November 05, 2007
I retired from the BNSF Railway about 4 1/2 years ago after 38 1/2 years service, as did my brother, father, both grandfathers and one uncle. That marked 201 years of service on the railroad.

I have 3 sons, oldest (single) son lives in Palo Alto, CA near San Francisco,Stanford vs. UCLA (we lost by 3) and works with computers, my middle son, (married, Tim & Kim) works with computers in Seattle, WA & the youngest just got married (Peter & Catherine) here in Fort Worth, TX and is currently staying with my wife (Jerry) and myself until the house they bought clears.

Welcome aboard, Michael!  Keep writing.  Keep your mind as active as you can.  Try to learn something new as often as you can.  Hope to hear from you soon!  I'd like to know how the Big A is affecting you at this point.  Your writing seems to be good.

God bless you and your wife and family.

Big SmileLeah:

As I worked on the railroad, I invested in the stock market since I was 18.

Now, as I turn 62 I have $1,300,000. Once invested in a proper managed account interest and or dividends will pay all expenses for my wife and me living in a home (if necessary) the net at least doubling over the next 28 years so she will be taken care of. I've been very lucky. More later.

Hi, Michael.  I'm afraid you may have misinterpreted what I asked when I asked about the Big A...I really meant to say, how is alzheimers (the Big A) affecting your life.  Memory loss?  etc.  I meant what is happening physically to you at this stage of alzheimers.  I am really glad to see that you have no financial worries and that your wife will be fine as time goes on.  Who knows?  Maybe a cure will be found for Alzheimers!   Oh, don't we wish!!  Thanks.  Leah

Welcome, Michael! I've never forgotten the train rides my brother and I took when we went to visit our grandparents, and I'm starting to think the train is the best way to travel, today. Sounds like you and your family know more about the railroad than most historians.

Take care and thanks for subscribing,

Carol

Dear Carol:

Smile Nearly all my days are keeping up my communication and investment strategy. I used to spend

much of my time biking.... but too many really bad accidents and trips to the emergency room. Now, no more biking.

My mom is 88 and lives in a home close to my brother & his family not too far from

Minneapolis. The home doesn't allow phones. They now have a website (showing a beautiful picture of Mom). That's a really good idea...

All your work is really, REALLY appreciated!

I live in Fargo, Michael, so I'm not too far away. I'm surprised the home doesn't allow phones. My mom really needed hers. Many people can't use them, and we had to pay for it, of course, but a few people had them. She had daily phone chats with friends. My dad couldn't use one and so he didn't have one in his room. It would have just disturbed him and wouldn't have been worth the money.

I'm glad they have the Web site and you (and others) can see her picture.
