Sleep Induced Confusion

By Linda Thursday, September 20, 2007

My mother sleeps a fair amount during the day.  Just can't keep her eyes open regardless of whether she's had a decent night's sleep. I've noticed that oftentimes as soon as she closes her eyes she kind of goes into another world.  Though asleep her hands will move about (like reaching for something, sewing or eating motions).  Wherever she is in her "dream state" tends to stay with her long after awakening.  Confusion and hallucinations are more pronounced even if she was perfectly clear before nodding out.

I know there probably aren't any solutions, but has anyone had experience of this type?  Sharing is a big comfort for me.  Thanks.

I think that sounds normal for Alzheimer's, I have had patients that had more trouble when they were sleepy and many are sleep. I just wanted to add that I get confused as I am falling asleep and sometimes if I am drowsy during the day.
