What a refreshing post to read, Dorian!  Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. 

 

I do find sometimes that I feel just plain worn out from caregiving for my elderly mother, who is about at early stage 5 of the 7 stages of alzheimer's.  I know too (as a cancer survivor) that finding tiny bits of pleasure in daily events is so important and life-enhancing.  Your description of walking your dogs is just that kind of moment that I try to find each day.  (I like to walk my dogs in the morning, too!)  But, as you know from your own experience, it's hard, sometimes, when one is feeling bedraggled from the constant demand, to find personal pleasure.
