The Houston Chronicle published an editorial on May 21 that makes a compelling argument why action needs to be taken now to fight Alzheimer's. "Time is of the essence," the editorial reads. "Death rates for heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer and strokes declined between 2000 and 2005. In the same period, Alzheimer's deaths increased 45 percent." Detailing the recent visits to Congress by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, the editorial is an eloquent reminder of what so many are dealing with in the United States.
Thank you to Justice O'Connor, Speaker Gingrich, and the Houston Chronicle for calling for the U.S. Congress to take action to address this disease.
