About Me

Dorian Martin, who helped to care for an aging grandmother and was the primary caregiver for her mother, shares the ins and outs of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease as well as the resulting issues that impact a family that is dealing with this illness.

Dorian's mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in September 2005 and died in September 2007. Dorian’s maternal grandmother also suffered from undiagnosed dementia before her death in the 1980s.

Starting her professional career as a newspaper journalist, Dorian became a nationally recognized communications director during her tenure at two Texas school districts and a state education association. She then worked at a major university system where she coordinated professional development, communications, and evaluation for a nationally recognized effort to increase the quantity and quality of teachers produced by the system's nine universities. She currently works for an Austin education consulting company, which was gracious enough to allow Dorian to work from her home in order to deal with her mother's health issues. Dorian also is pursuing a doctorate in Education Human Resource Development.
