About Me

I was so compelled by a year of being the sole caregiver to my challenging elderly father and sweet but ailing mother (both with early Alzheimer's not properly diagnosed), that once I figured everything out medically and behaviorally - I gave up my stalled career as a television executive to become an advocate for eldercare awareness and reform.

Passion and determination to save others from a similar experience resulted in my first (best-selling) book "Elder Rage"; producing/hosting a radio program "Coping With Caregiving" (5 years/700 archived interviews); media including: TODAY, CNN, PBS Documentary, Woman's Day, Prevention, AARP Bulletin cover story; a syndicated column and two blogs; and over 150 keynotes (CEU/CME's), including replacing Maureen Reagan at the California Governor's Conference for Women, and to the National Security Agency and the Florida House of Representatives.

I also speak about writing/publishing, and surviving my recent breast cancer (several surgeries, extensive chemo/radiation, numerous complications) and how to embrace gratitude, affirmations and humor to overcome life's challenges.

"Jacqueline, thank you so much for your superb presentation at our Alzheimer's Research Seminar. The audience included dementia specialists, senior neurologists, neuro-psychologists, scientists, nurses, students, and family caregivers who came from New England specifically to hear you. And what a fabulous presentation it was! Your ability to combine humor, personal insight, wisdom, and critical meaningful guidance to all of us involved in the care for those with dementia was sensational. Each gained useful tips and tools that will enrich our professional practices and personal experiences." -R. Stern, Ph.D., Director, Alzheimer's Disease and Research Program, Boston University School of Medicine

"ELDER RAGE" is a Book-of-the-Month Club selection receiving 237 five-star Amazon reviews and being considered for a film. Over fifty endorsements include: Hugh Downs, Regis Philbin, John Hopkins Memory Clinic, Duke University Center for Aging, and Dr. Rudy Tanzi/Harvard Medical School. The Addendum by neurologist/dementia specialist, Rodman Shankle, MS MD (former Medical Director UCI Alzheimer's Center), makes it valuable for healthcare professionals (including doctors) and required reading at numerous universities for courses in geriatric assessment and management.

MY MISSIONS
To: help improve eldercare laws; encourage long-term care planning; encourage funding for Alzheimer's and Breast Cancer research and heighten early diagnosis awareness; enlighten healthcare professionals how they can better help families they work with; provide solutions and hope to caregivers; expose elder abuse and exploitation; emphasize care for the caregiver; bring attention to Adult Day Services, which saved my parents' lives as well as my own. I testified before the Assistant Secretary on Aging and the National Adult Day Services Association bestowed their Media Award. I was also awarded "Advocate of the Year" by the National Association of Women Business Owners at their Remarkable Women Awards. And since my recent breast cancer, I advocate that everyone (but especially caregivers) closely monitor their own health.
