I am sometimes asked what degrees I have relating to medicine and healthcare, since I speak at conferences to healthcare professionals about dementia. I always say seriously, "Well, I have an advanced degree that was so hard to complete and took five full years to get - a D.Le."  Afte...

    Thank you, Jacqueline,

    I'm printing this out!

I must be getting to that age--more and more of my friends and co-workers are beginning to comment about their mom, dad, or even their spouse.

We all wonder if a slight slip of thought or word is an indicator of the dreaded Alzheimer's. What is normal? What is simply stress, the aging process, a natural decline--and what something more?

Your top ten recommendations help clear up those nagging concerns and lead caregivers to healing.

I'll take it with me as I talk to caregiver's support groups, Alzheimer's conferences, and professional women's organizations.

Ooops, I should have also said that I know I have to have your permission to use it, and that I must include your name as the author and your contact information!"

Thank you for all you do, Jacqueline.

Mom has dementia and my life is over full. I work 40 plus hours take care of Mom, husband and sometimes Mother in law.  I am no longer able to relax.  I keep telling myself I need to keep on the tread mill and evry time I get a couple of days into it Mom has to go to doctor or she gets sick and there my exercise goes.

Does anyone have any suggestions on relaxing and relieving the stress in our lives?

    thank you

    June

Hi June, so sorry you are going through so much--I felt the same way when I was a caregiver to my parents. If I had it all to do over again, I would put myself FIRST.

Stress can cause illness--I know, I developed breast cancer after five years of caring for my parents.

So please take time for yourself. You are required to make sure your loved ones are safe, but you are not required to let caregiving destory your health, nor would they want that for you.
