Estelle Getty, best known for her feisty role as Sophia in The Golden Girls, died earlier today in her home, according to a CNN article.  As stated in the article, Getty was an advanced dementia sufferer.

As both an Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner for her role as Sophia, it is clear that Getty acomplished many things in her life, even though her illness may have hindered her work in her later years. With such a devoted fan base, Estelle Getty will surely be missed.
