I am not only concerned that very often the Alzheimer's patient is not being treated for his/her obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but not infrequently the cargiver may also be suffering from the same sleep disorder and never get treatment (there is a genetic predisposition).
A recent study from San Diego showed signigicant cognitive improvement treating Alzheimer's patients with a positive airway pressure (PAP) machine. Treating OSA early may prevent the disease altogether (not to mention the host of other known health risks).
It is obvious that many AD patients will refuse treatment, but some will comply. They deserve to have the option, in my opinion.
