Thanks Christine - this is a really great post and so important.  Your definitions help to  clarify many of the aspects surrounding wandering. Thanks for sharing and giving us the details, I suspect we might be able to help someone find their way home someday.

Has anyone a particular story to share about wandering?  Maybe a loved one or neighbor has wandered away from his or her home?  Maybe you have assisted in a search for a person with dementia or Alzheimer's?  If so post it here so we can all learn what to do to help prevent or at least assist if this happens to us.

You can read a bit more on wandering and symptoms of the disease in Stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Some of you may wonder what its' really like for someone with dementia.  Read A Day in the Life of A Dementia Sufferer written by our Expert Leah who has vascular dementia.  I think you will be inspired and even have a laugh or two.

    All the best, sue (moderator)

    Dear Christine,

I enjoyed reading this interesting and useful article.  There are many helpful details in this article about wandering.  It's so important for people to realize that just because someone has not wandered before, he or she could still suddenly wander and be missing unexpectedly.  ID bracelets and tracking bracelets can help with locating lost wanderers.

    Take care,

    Kristi Marie Gott

Wandering is a real and often tragic problem. A two-sided lock is the answer. They are inexpensive and easy to install. They allow caregivers to rest easy knowing the home is secure, both from inside and outside.

Paste the following link to review. I will be happy to answer all your questions and assist you, should you want to order this for your home.
