I hardly even considered the aging mind while starting this book. However, this is a much fuller view of the book as it allows you to realize as you said the joy of reliving the best part of our lives. I cant wait to share this article with my book club and discuss the relevant topics as our grandparents are now almost all in nursing homes. It also makes me have a kinder look on the aging family members I myself have. Why not allow their mind to enjoy the partial reality they create.
Carol: WOW! You really made this book come alive for me and now I need to get it immediately.
Like you, I've experienced dementia care firsthand as a daughter and as a nursing home administrator. I know all about the "therapeutic lies" that are told until the lies are now reality. We all know that we need to enter the world of the person with dementia.
I also love the backdrop of the circus next to the nursing home. How many of us as little kids got mad and said we were going to run away with the circus? An ideal place to escape to....but the administrator in me was in a panic when I heard that!
So many emotions came to the surface as I read your piece. Thanks for sharing as a great writer and caregiver.

I was hesitant to be a "spoiler", as far as the ending goes, but the nursing home experience was what made the book relevant to our purposes. It really is a well written book, from all angles.
Thanks for your response.
