HealthCentral Twitter Chat Focuses on Health Costs

  • Most of us who have our own health issues or are caregivers to those who are ill are acutely aware of how insurance coverage can change from year to year. Just managing the yearly Medicare changes for our elders can be confusing, especially for the Medicare supplemental policies and for Medicare D, which is the prescription drug policy.

However, many caregivers are still on their employer’s policies, or have enrolled in a policy through a state or federal market place. In other words, we have to juggle insurance issues for our loved ones as well as ourselves. Considering that we're often coping with more than one type of insurance, we’re bound to encounter some rough spots.

Health costs and insurance issues are the focus of the #healthtipschat at 2:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 29. We’ll discuss how we plan for the insurance changes that each January brings, how we try to keep down medication costs, how we manage the stress involved with overwhelming medical bills, whether or not we use a health counselor and what items - luxuries or daily needs - people do without in order to pay medical bills.

I hope that you’ll join our #HealthTipsChat next Thursday on Twitter.com. We’ll have several HealthCentral experts moderating the chat including Lene Anderson, our patient expert for RA, Pj Hamel, our patient expert for breast cancer and me, Carol Bradley Bursack, representing Alzheimer’s and other dementia as well as the caregivers who provide family care. Sarah Bramblette, our Live Bold Photo Contest winner who is studying Health Law, will also join us.
