End the Healthcare Nightmare

I sat and listened as this man, a good man at heart, was blaming the high cost of health care on people who don't do the right things to take care of themselves, and on young people who would "rather buy a new vehicle than buy into their employer's health plan." Then, he says, ...

Carol thanks so much for this post - I think we all could use this kind of eye opener now and again.

The truth is no one really knows what might come at them financially.  Living a smart, good life can still leave you in a pickle when finances get sticky.

I'm not sure what the solution is to these kinds of health care concerns - the money ones.  I do know that it would serve all of us well to be a bit more reserved with our opinions on things - one just never knows what might happen one day; or who you are standing next to you could be one of the many scenarios you've described.

Thanks so very much and Happy Holidays to you.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think we must keep from judging others from outside appearances. We never really know what they've been through.

Happy Holidays to you,

Carol

I believe everyone should have basic health insurance. In Canada, everyone have basic health insurance (no dental), and kids also have dental insurance (I heard that some dentists threaten to cancel it in Quebec as there are not enough funds.) Yes it takes high tax to pay for it. I discussed this with some of my Christian sisters and I know that it is about human right. Imagine someone gets sick with contagious illness and no one cares for him/her. In the end, people will be affected! I know CDC has plans for urgencies like that, but it is not prevention.

Our country spends billions of dollars on our multi-layered health system with exectutives earning huge salaries, plus advertising drugs. It's been said that we could have health care that covers everyone for the same money we pay today, if the system were changed.

England has a very efficient national system, and Canada's works but is underfunded. If they spent what we spend they would have a better system. I, too, believe it is a matter of rights and also public health. People should not have to go bankrupt because they contract an expensive illness.

Our ranking in many areas, such as babies dying at birth, is shameful for a country as rich and "developed" as ours.
