Patient Centered Approach
TW
Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 09:43 AMI work in a facility that aims for patient centered approach. Specifically our "secure" unit. I am very proud of the care we provide, and the extrodinary staff we have. When you see this type of gentle care being given, with residents who suffer with Dementia or Alzheimers it is truley uplifting. The caregivers must love what they are doing, and not all are cut out for this area.

Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 10:19 AMHow right you are that not everyone can do this. I was in awe of many of the CNAs that cared for my loved ones. Especially when dementia is part of the equasion, this is very difficult work. It takes a specially gifted person to do it well, but the benefits are spectacular. Congratulations on a fine, forward looking facility.

Dear Carol,
So many good points in this post. Patient centered nursing homes, instead of efficiency centered nursing homes is what we need. Many small meals at times to suit the patient, instead of 3 large meals, has seemed to help many elders function better when I've been caregiving. Sometimes six small meals helps someone who isn't eating much to consume more nutrition.
