Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 10:32 PMSame thing here - 10 years from diagnosis to death for my mom with dementia. 8+ years institutionalized, most of that time requiring intermediate nursing-level care. The only reason we didn't go bankrupt was that I moved her to a private geriatric clinic in Mexico. It offered 2x the caregivers for 1/2 of the price here in the U.S. Many people should take that option, but few will.

Friday, January 12, 2007 at 12:18 PMThat's an interesting option, Bill. I'm sure many wouldn't consider it for several reasons, one of which is that the elder wouldn't be near friends and relatives.
