Dental Care for Elders Important but Frustrating

Most dentists stress the importance of dental care for elders. Carol,

It is indeed hard to watch out for the dental health of the elderly with AD. We finally found this 3-minutes dental cleaning solution and the caregivers now does it pretty much everyday after my FIL goes to bed. There used to be some solution that needs 15 minutes which I think is too long for caregiver to handle because they had to do it within certain time and return the dentures to the cup next to his bed so he does not feel something is wrong. My FIL does not know he needs to clean the denture anymore but he can take them off himself if told. I think it is too late for him to make a new denture but fortunately the dentist friend did his new upper denture in late 2005. Like eyeglasses, he cannot get these things with precision anymore.

Thanks for the post,

Nina

My grandfather desperately needed dental care but it was always a struggle to get him to the dentist. It was literally an all day event.

You're right, Denise. I get tired when I just think about all of those times. It's hard on everyone.

Thanks for the comment.
