Creating Contentment for A Person With Alzheimer's

By Kristi Marie Gott Saturday, March 08, 2008

With our schedule filling up with things she enjoyed, she was often smiling, and I could tell she trusted me and felt secure and had contentment despite having midstage Alzheimer's.  Enjoyment of familiar pleasures was still possible, and these things had a soothing effect.

It was some years ago that I knew this lovely lady, but I still think of her with a warm glow when I hear piano music or have a Danish pastry.  I was the caregiver, but to me she was the special blessing.

Dear Sue,

Thank you for responding to my story.  The time we shared was a beautiful experience, and I know we both enjoyed it.  The familiar things from her past seemed to be a good way to bring her pleasure.
