Thanks Kristin for this really important post with a topic we must keep at the top of our minds! We hear of this often and it is so hard to determine if someone will wander off, especially with an Alzheimer's or dementia patient.
My husband volunteers with a local search and rescue group and get spaged often for similar kinds of instances - some are rescues and unfortunately some are recoveries.
One of Our Experts Carol Bradley Bursack has written about this topic in her post, "Another Way to Safeguard a Wanderer". As well, Eric Hall from the AFA writes, "Act Before Crisis to Prevent Those with Alzheimer's Disease from Wandering" in his post late last year.

Hope this helps, good to hear from you again Kristin - all the best, sue (moderator)
