Hi Leah
Saw your post and had to respond.
This is such a great story. I would be curious too but like you...I am shy. Not sure if I would have the courage to go check out the critters that Tom the trapper had in his truck. I don't think I have ever seen a muskrat before. I only know that one song about muskrat love. :>) What do they look like?
I love your philosophy of treasuring the moments right before you. How often do we live life inside our heads either thinking of the past or worried about the future? Living in the past or future...we miss out on what is right before us.
There is beauty in...right now. Thanks for reminding us.

Your response to my blog, MerelyMe, was beautiful! And, as for that muskrat, its fur was sooooo soft! I'd like a Snuggly made from one! Only, I wouldn't like to think that it took...like 50 or more little critters to make it up! I'm hoping that Tim the Trapper comes by again; he's promised to let me see the foxes he traps.
Thanks for responding! Hope to hear from you again sometime! God bless you!
Leah
Your posts, with your appreciation of daily events, your active participation in your health care, your recognition of memory issues and methods of coping with them, are all just amazing to me. My mother has Alzheimer's and from the beginning she has not wanted to recognize it as it scares her so badly. Then, when my father had a stroke (physically good, but cognition not so great), it has been so hard to see them struggle and fight against any limitations and their fears.
I will continue to read your posts for inspiration, for helping me to help them as best I can, and mostly so that my fear (with my rapidly deteriorating, tired, stressed brain) of going down the same path is kept in check by your appreciation of new experiences and by seeing the way you cope with change.
Seriously, I am not an eloquent writer, but you have just lifted my spirits amazingly. You have are a gift.
Leah, how wonderful that you are able to recognize the joy of living in the moment. We all need to learn to savor each moment. Dememtia forces people, in many ways, to experience what is happening now.
Thanks again for an amazing post!
Carol
Yeah, Carol, I feel pretty lucky to be able to experience life this way...I really wouldn't change a thing! Thanks for your response!
