Help Loved Ones with Alzheimer's Keep the House Organized

My pantry was in terrible disarray. It had spread out over three areas. My husband and I were constantly looking for things. I had made some attempt to organize the one upstairs. Finally, even I-with dementia and awful short term memory-had to admit that things had gotten out of hand.  I was buy...

Dear Leah:

All I can say is wow - that is alot of chili!  And everything else you mentioned for that matter.  But here's the thing - dementia or no dementia, your sense of humour is spectacular.  And I might just start organizing forSpring - I am feeling inspired to not plan meals while I shop too!

I guess now with Lent ending you'll have to keep up the "Fish on Fridays" with all that Tuna!

All the best, sue

Oh, yeah...I have to have a sense of humor when living with dementia!Big Smile

I'm glad you enjoyed my blog.  I hope it helps others out there, too.

Thanks, Sue.  You give me wonderful support. Happy Easter!

You're right, Ginger.  I took him with me tonight--along with my list!  He did catch me making some mistakes, like picking up fat-free sour cream--he doesn't like to shop too healthy... It was good having him with me.  He gave me lots of help!

Stay well, my friend.

WOW - I can relate to this...it reminds me of when we would be ready to move [when my husband was in the Army]....we would take stock of the pantry...and plan dinners around the remains in the pantry.

Sounds like you will be eating a lot of chili...smile

All kidding aside...getting one's pantry in order is a good thing...even without dementia...with dimentia...it is probably a full time job.  [smile]

Why not make a list of all items you have...and as you use them...mark them off the list.

Losing short term memory must be a hard thing

Do you have long term memory about when you were young?

I hope so--your childhood was filled with fun memories...smile

All I know is that I love you, cousin, short term memory or not...smile, wink

Happy Easter --I remember those Easter Egg Hunts at Kitty's....so much fun!

Love ya!

I do have some memories of childhood.  Almost none from middle and high school...even less from college...Every day brings new things.  Like this morning, I got up and saw a bag of trash sitting against the stove...well, Bill must have done that and forgot to take it out on his way to work...

Nope.  This evening he asks if I am finished filling it so he can take it out...I don't remember taking that bag out of the trash can...this is getting too weird......

So, life is an adventure, to say the least.

Love, Leah

Leah,

When you finish organizing your pantry, you can come do mine, too! I have way too much of everything, but not quite as much as you do. I think it's a common problem. If we couldn't get to the store for a few weeks, we'd have plenty to eat - probably just not what my family wants.

Love you,

Karen

How right you are!  We could live off of it in an emergency.  We are far more fortunate than many in other countries.  I know we do not thank God enough for all we do have!

Thanks for your response.

God bless you, Leah
