I have to whine today...
Clearly, my dementia is not getting better. I cannot remember things from last week. I cannot remember that I've gone to the doctor or had a stress test. I forgot to go for my mammogram appointment...
My memory is also affecting m...

Talking to Myself, In the Vegetable Aisle...
Coni Townshend Halko
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 09:09 AMDear One,
It is OK--go ahead and whine--it is natural when you are experencing so many changes.
We [those who love you] are here to listen to whatever you wish to share with us.
We are here to support you the best way we can no matter what you may be facing.
Heck...I know people who whine & they have no reason to whine...yet, it somehow makes them feel better. That's OK too. That's part of life.
When you truly love someone--you love unconditionally--and try to be there for them.
Now, I must ask your forgiveness...Please forgive me when I get caught up in my own drama--and somehow forget to let you know how very much I care!
Love always, Cousin Connie Leigh

Talking to myself

1 do the same, and I talk myself through getting dressed...I have trouble with any clothes item that is inside out or back to front.
As for reminders, I am experimenting with having my computer beep me as well as having the reminder on the computer screen. I have also discovered that doctors, hairdresers etc are very happy to call you the day before or even an hour before an appointment.
Lastly, I think that is very hard on our husbands, so if you can, try to get someone else to come and help when there is something complex to do. and pay them if possibleI

Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 04:53 PMHi, Louise. Your suggestions are good ones for anyone having memory problems to follow. I am fortunate to have a most wonderfully supportive and tolerant husband. He is getting used to telling me stuff over and over. Probably one of the best things we have done is hire a cleaning lady to come every two weeks for four hours. She helps me stay on track that day. I "parallel" clean while she does, stopping to talk with her from time to time. A label has been put onto the vacuum cleaner, so I know what it is and can remember to use it once in a while. One thing I AM good at still is washing clothes! Hang in there, Louise. I hope to hear from you again in the future.

Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11:27 PMHi~ I just stumbled upon your blog and have not yet had a chance to read all your posts, so maybe you've already looked into this: have your doctors checked your potassium, vitamin B, and magnesium levels? I suspect they already have, but if not, you should definitely make sure you are tested. A low reading on any of these tests can give you some of the symptoms you are having.
I'm off now to read the rest of your posts. Good luck to you. I'll be sending all good vibes your way.

Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 04:59 PMHi, dogsdon'tpurr...I love your "name"!

I have been tested every which way. The sleep apnea and myelodysplasia that I have, plus the diabetes, probably have not helped the memory much. I am using a breathing machine at night and am finally getting some good sleep. I hope you enjoy my blogs as much as I enjoy writing them. Hope to hear from you again!

Hi Leah - Good to hear from you. First let me say, whining is good medicine sometimes. Come here and use us for your sounding board - we are all cheering you on and want you to stay with us for as long as you are able!
As for talking to yourself, the produce department can be a confusing place. They put everything in so many differnt spots. You think you are in front of all the apples and you turn and there are three other tables with more on each! So keep talking to yourself if it comforts you - you mostly likely will not see those people again anyway!
Finally, I am so glad you have been able to get things rolling with the Sleep Apnea and the CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. I hope this is the reason for some of your "confusion" and with your increased stamina you find it a bit easier to sing!
All the best, sue
