Sleep Apnea Connected to Memory Loss

By Leah, Health Guide Thursday, June 12, 2008
After the past traumatic three weeks, I am happy to say that I am returning to the LAND OF THE LIVING.  Though I continue to worry about my granddaughter's anorexia, I have put her into God's hands... and, though I continue to mourn the loss of my brother, I know I must move forward thro...

Leah, I liked hearing that you have put your granddaughter into God's hands. A simple statement like that encourages me with a member of my own family.  Also that you know when to move forward while still grieving for your brother.

I'm so glad they invented those CPAP machines. Thanks for taking the time to share with others. You do make a difference. Diane

Your posts are very helpful in giving us caregivers more patience with our Loved Ones.  Please continue to write.  I am the caregiver of my Mom who has AD, and your posts help me understand what she's going through.  Thank you for sharing, I know this must be hard for you.  My Mom has been receiving a new treatment, that has helped improve some of her symptoms and maintain.  Please research Perispinal Etanercept for Alzheimer's or Enbrel for Alzheimer's.  It is new, and a Clinical Trial has not been done, but it has helped several patients maintain for over 3 years.  We just started the treatment in March 2008.  It is very expensive, and very controversial, but my goal is to make sure everyone at least knows about it...especially if they're in Early Stages.

Thanks again, Felicia

Hi, F.M.  Thanks for your response.  I get concerned sometimes that I am just writing to myself, so it is folks like you who keep me going with my writing.  Having some input from my readers spurs me on.  You, the caregivers, are the heroes out there...and your responses help me so much.  I will look into the medication you mentioned and ask my neurologist about it.  Take care of yourself. as well as your mother.  That's really important!  Again, many thanks. and may God bless you.

Hi Felicia, I looked at the video and I felt it helps to see how an AD patient acts and improves. Sometimes lots of people don't like to put it on the video for privacy reason. It is brave that you can share her situations with us. I didn't know we can do this on youtube.

Good luck!

Hi, Felicia and Nina!

I am so glad you, Nina, looked at the video.  I apologize, Felicia, for not having done it yet.  Once things settle down tomorrow, I will definitely watch it.  Thanks!

Hi Leah - thanks so much for this important information.  I have been trying to learn as much as I can about sleep apnea as my dad suffers from it but is not using CPAP or anything else for that matter.  I am trying, quite honestly to scare him into doing something.  I keep sending info his way and try to help him understand what is happening to his mind and body.  But he is a bit thick headed about such things.

Anyway I am glad you are starting to feel better and focusing on your care.  Congrats on a super doc's visit and that you are stable and good.

Our sister site, MySleepConnection.com has lots of information on sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.  You can read Leah's posts on her triumph over the CPAP as well as other experts and patients.  Check out the posts from our expert and sleep disorder patient Florence Cardinal.

All the best, sue

Good luck with your dad, Sue.  I don't know if it's stubbornness, vanity, or fear that prohibits some people from taking care of themselves...unfortunately, he may not be the lucky one who gets a just a "scare"; it could turn out to be a fatal problem if he lets it go on too long.  Sleep apnea can also affect the heart...

Hope all turns out well for him.  Thanks for your kind words.

Leah
