Friday, July 18, 2008 at 09:31 AMOh, may God bless you, Bill.
You and all my readers are the impetus to push me onward. I don't mention it too much (I hope), but I do go through periods of discouragment. With people like you in my Pep Squad, the days ahead seem more tolerable and full of promise. I am leaning toward the interior decorating course as I'm not sure I'd be able to read and remember all the law course would demand. Plus, I think I would be exercising more parts of my brain with the interior decorating course... I look forward to all comments...so don't hang back! Leah

Brain Exercise Class
Anonymous
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 09:51 AMI'm a Service Coordinator at a Senior/Disabled apartment building. We have been doing "Brain Exercises" for about 4 yrs. now. I started the class once a month to just see how the interest would be. Very quickly the frequency increased to twice a month. We now have the class once a week ( more frequently has been requested) We do Rebus puzzles, work on Memory skills, lateral thinking puzzles, critical thinking exercises and a discussion group. The attendance averages 15-17 tenants. They all find these activities have really stimulated their brain and they have develop new friendships and support systems. They really do WORK! Get involved either alone or in a group!

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 10:39 AMThank you for your comments. I am going to begin a similar thing at a senior center near my hometown. I will be leading it. Right now, I am planning monthly sessions covering the five senses. After that, I'll be leading classes trying to bring background knowledge more to the forefront. The third set of classes will be done in the computer lab. Following that, who knows? Depends on what the "public" wants. The senior center I am working with is just NOW getting into this type of activity. I hope my classes are as successful as yours!

sunscreen

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 09:54 AMyou don't need to stop using sunscreen. some of the vitamin d comes through as the spf eventually dissolves during the day. 'they' say to reapply every two hours, which means there is always going to be some lack of screening. i am 64, and with my northern european red hair, i would have other serious problems if i didn't use sunscreen. an employee of the state of colorado health department told me once that 'people like us get enough vitamin d standing under a tree'. good luck.

Good Evening Leah,
Looks like I have the honor of being the first to comment on your share post twice in a row! Just think - with all of these goals you'll have a nice tan and pearly white teeth.
I would recommend taking the interior design course...that way you'll know where to display all of your stained glass art
. In all seriousness though - hope all of your positive energy helps to minimize the stresses that you may be going through. As a former manager at my first job said...if you focus on solutions - there aren't any problems. Life is so darn short to get overwhelmed by the things that are beyond our control. You are tackling dementia with such strong courage and determination. Hang in there Leah - you have lots of fans who read your posts (myself included) who want to see you do all you can to stay healthy and be happy! Your blogs inspire me to improve my skills and to "sharpen the saw". Your teaching career is far from over
.
