Hello,
My Mother is currently suffering from dementia (I hate that word) brought on by stroke. She is living alone. My sister stops by every evening and spends the weekends with her, but, that's not enough and it is over extending her. I am trying to figure out what would be best for my Mom. She loves her home (she's right across the street from where she grew up) and really wants to stay in her home as much as possible, However, she's so isolated there and I believe that this isolation has contributed to her illness. She really needs to be around and interact with others. Payment also needs to be considered. (She has High Option Governmental BC/BS and Medicare.) I'm thinking that maybe a combination of in home and daycare might be good. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, do you have any facility recommendations? I'm terrified of putting her someplace where she might be ill treated. (She is in Lanham, MD very close to Wash., DC)
Thank you for any assistance that you can give!
Amy

Thanks so much for your post. It is really difficult to go through this disease - caregiver or loved one. And when it comes time to make the kinds of decisions you are now facing, information is one of the most valuable tools you will have.
I suggest you take a look at our Caregiver Center, specifically the information from the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
