Nice post, Dorian. While I've read some studies that don't reach a solid conclusion about mental stimulation, it seems reasonable that people who stay active mentally will have a greater chance of staying sharp. I'm so glad this study mentioned reading and writing - my passions.

The study on being hungry as a child is interesting, too. As you say, we likely should try to experiment on children or grandchildren, but there may be a correlation here between our ready food supply and the kinds of food we eat and the increase in AD. Of course, it's been shown that obesity increases the risk. Some studies are just plain interesting and may in some convoluted way advance scientists understanding of brain disease. This may be one of those that's just a small link, but could provide useful information.

Take care,

Carol
