Since, during autopsies, plaques are often found in the brains of elderly people who show no signs of dementia, it only makes sense that this test is just a tool in a whole kit of tests. AD is so complicated that only a series of tests can come close to making a correct diagnosis. Guidelines such as these are a step forward.
