I am the author of MOTHERING MOTHER: A Daughter's Humorous and Heartbreaking Memoir. I wrote every day--the raw emotions of careigiving--as I cared for my mother, suffering with Parkinson's and later Alzheimer's. She moved in with my husband, two of our three children and myself for the last almost three years of her life. I sold my small private school I was the owner and director of to care for my mother. I wrote daily--in vignette style so that other caregivers could pick up or put down my book as they are needed. I wrote the nitty-gritty side to caregiving--the resentments, frustrations and fears, and even the fantasies and daydreams about my life beyond caregiving. I wrote to stay sane, to capture the moments, to question and learn and continue to grow as a woman, a human being. And now that my mother has passed, I consider it a priviledge to share my story with others--to help them on their path in caregiving and then to come out of it and find themselves again. My book is available on Amazon and in most bookstores. My mission is to sooth and comfort and even help others to laugh and cry on their caregiving journey.
