Dad is a very slow eater. I am not sure if he always was, but he sure is now.
Granted, I am THRILLED he is eating well and enjoying what he eats, however, sometimes we cannot invest 2 hours in a meal so we have to try to hurry things along. As many of you know, hurrying someone along that has Alzheimer’s disease can really be a challenge.
This week, I figured out a way to speed up the process, quite by accident.
He was eating a sandwich and fries, and I had been finished for about 5 minutes and he was about halfway through. The waitress asked if we wanted any dessert and I said that Dad and I would split a piece of German chocolate cake.
The cake came to the table while he was finishing and I began to eat “my half”. When Dad saw that HIS half might not be all he wanted, he ate the second half of that sandwich and fries in record time, grabbed his fork and pounced on that cake.
I have tried this method again with another positive result.
My diet suffers, but we do what we have to….
