Hi I am new to this and feeling a bit overwhelmed. My mom has multi-infarct dementia. I am her primary caregiver. My 86 year old grandmother lives with my mom. (she is mentaly fine) She is very controlling and overbearing with my mom, always telling her what to do and how to do it.She does not let mom do much for herself and I am sure this is causing mom to get so much worse. My grandmothers way of thinking is stuck about 50 years in the past and refuses to see the harm she is causing. Is there any helpful sites on how to treat people with dementia?

Hi and thanks so much for writing. My name is MK and I am the producer for this site.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I think there are some articles on this site that might be able to help you.

First, read Carol Bradley Bursack's Dementia Boot Camp: Training to Be a Caregiver, Part 1. It will help you navigate the dementia waters, so to speak.  Also, check out Coping with the Alternate Realities of Dementia Patients and Coping With the Alternate Realities of Dementia Patients: Part II.

I think these might help you find a good starting point for managing caring for mother. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
