Another bad day

FTD .... When the time comes for a home, start early on your search considering FTD, many homes for the elderly discriminate against people with FTD because they wander and are so uncontrollable and thus a liability. I do have a home caretaker a few days a week and do not know what I would do without her. My husband works 40 hour weeks, so I feel very alone in this. I know how hard it can be. The government cutting funds in California inspired...

One day at a time

We are taking it day by day here. I and my husband have now saved her from cocking to death. Mobility is less and less each day and she has put on major weight so this is part of what makes it hard for her to get up after she sits down. My husband works so much thank God for Shirley (our caretaker) she keeps us more positive. I loose it when she pees on everything. It takes all day to clean up and even the landlord has commented on our water /...

Increasing problems with daily tasks / boundaries

I am really going after some new web clients again and making some progress feels great. The Prozac has officially begun controlling the serotonin in my brain. Yea! The Alzheimer's association and hospice has also checked in with us a few times and that is very nice. They suggested I ask for her help with things to get her more involved. After going on a walk with her and buying her chocolate cookies, she watched me garden and said flat out "NO"...

Emotions, not a good idea?

I wanted to address my reaction while reading ‘Elder Abuse - How to Define It, Recognize It, and Report It' post.Specifically, ‘Emotional Abuse - Inflicting mental pain, anguish, or distress on an elder person through verbal or nonverbal acts'. I think this is really a challenge when you are dealing with taking over all aspects of another person's life like shopping, cooking, cleaning, driving, entertainment, your personal space,...

Waking up to Barb

We have been struggling with my mother in laws inability to get that she is to use the patch, the lozenge, or smoke not all 3 at the same time. This debate has been going on for about 2 weeks now, post hospital visit. She also went to the hospital after vomiting violently one morning, I took her in. She got her stomach contents pulled out with a tube and was in for 3 days. They found a golf ball size something but the blockage passed on its own....

Caregiver for mother in law with dementia

My husband's mom got diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia at the age of 64. We took her car keys about four months ago and as of this month have all moved in together. It has been a real adjustment so far. I hope I can find others with insight and advice on how to make things work smoothly and what to do. Is there an early Dementia sub-group in here? She told me the only way they could tell if it is Alzheimer's is if they did an autopsy. What?...
