How can I determine if it is "Hallucination"?

I've noticed for the last couple of months my husband stays up fairly late before going to bed. This past friday nite it was after 1am after I've worked a full day I cannot stay away. Anyway, the next day he told me that while he was sitting in the breakfast area someone tried to open the door. When I started questioning him, he then decided he was not sure if it happened at all... because to him it seemed...

My husband has Alzheimer's and I have tried to rationalize "not driving" with him, which I now know was all for naught...
The journey

This has been a journey, one year into the diagnosis of Alzheimer's (my husband). He is 83 years old, I'd noticed for maybe two years he was having trouble completing a task, poor judgement with money, very repetitive in statements, questions and stories from long ago. He was very agitated most of the time.

However, medication (Exelon) made a big difference with the agitation and he seems to have mellowed...
