Years ago I ran across this quote when I was taking care of a friend with cancer.    I re-read this often and find comfort in these words.  I wanted to share it with other caregivers.

"Jesus asks you to love these men who are unhappy, poor, ill...He asks you to offer them friendship, tender care, as persons, not simply as cases to be attended to.  You will often be unable to relieve their sufferings, even though you must do all that is in your power to help them...

To love the most insignificant of men as one's brother, as if he were the only one in the world, is not a waste of time.  However miserable his condition may be, I dare to say that he is as worthy of love as God Himself."
