loss of memory

It is just like a shock to me, not that I am so surprised. I just used to think we could remind him. Not anymore.

It is a shock, Nina. And they cover up so well that it often takes time before we realize the entire picture. You are handling this well, as usual. It's very hard to witness. As you say, unless you've seen it you can't really understand.

Although my father-in-law forgot a lot, he seems to hold on to the impression of his past. He sometimes looks like he remembers some stuff. Not connected but spots here and there. Still he is pretty much there for my husband as his Dad. But now I know his logic is no longer intact and continuous. That is why he sometimes says funny stuff like a neighbor can pay for him. Sometimes when we drove by this street, he would suddenly mentioned this lady friend of his (they had dated for a while.) I guess eventually he will forget more and more.
